Raranga Korari
​(Flax Weaving)

Make a small kete and putiputi (flowers) in this introductory course where you will earn the basics of raranga (weaving) and how to harvest the korari (flax). In earlier times learning the art of raranga was a tapu (sacred) and intensive activity so you will also be advised how to follow Maori protocols when working with korari.

Mosaics

Techniques for
Pouring Acrylics

The pouring of acrylics is a new exciting inven-tion in contemporary painting. Many artists become addicted to this method, experimenting with various techniques, creating distinctive and amazing pictures. This workshop is an opportunity for you to explore this new territory of fluid acrylics. Learn several of the most interesting and important techniques using your favourite colours and following the detailed instructions of our experienced tutor. Painting Kowhai Flowers

Have Fun
​with Clay!
​Saturday 3 March, 9am-4pm, 1 day $115
Experience the joy of creating in clay alongside our experienced tutor, Katherine Batchelor. Make hand built altered spheres, add carvings, texture, hanging loops, animal/human features, feet, etc. Decorate with underglaze, painting, stencils, layering, sgraffito. The objects you create can be functional (i.e. a salt pig) or simply decorative. The course fee includes a basic tool kit, clay, glazes and firing.

A Portrait of a Seagull

paint a picture of a seagull on the beach, full of

Basic Soap Making

In this fun class you will learn the basics of soap making. We will use the traditional Cold Process method and use oils that may be in your pantry already.  This  method produces very mild soap that is perfect for baby or sensitive skin yet will still clean the grubbiest of hands. This is a practical hands-on workshop. Take home  a beautiful  handmade  soap together with full instructions. All ingredients provided. View examples at the CEW office.

Easy Soap Making
Saturday 7 April, 9am-12noon, 1 morn $60
Do you want to make soap the cheats way?  Our tutor will provide batches of pre-made soap that can be reprocessed to form brand new bars of soap.  You get lots of interesting patterns as the different soaps merge together and you can customise your soap by adding scents and colours to make a unique and easy homemade gift! There is no caustic soda and no curing time, the soaps simply need to harden. Make soap the easy way!

Metal Wall Art

Metal wall art is very popular and corrugated iron gives a unique visual effect. Have fun with an underused or dysfunctional outdoor space by making a corrugated iron mural. Bring along your own designs - a photo, a drawing or an image to use as a starting point, then see where your creativity takes you! The tutor will also have some examples that may inspire you. Never painted before? No experience is necessary. Let our tutor help you discover your inner artist. The course fee includes ALL materials including the iron and paints.
