MEDICAL QIGONG: Eight Brocade PracticeQigong is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and uses exercises to optimise energy, or Qi, within the body. Medical Qigong (8 pieces of brocade) consists of eight movements (learnt over an eight-week period) using the theory of TCM through opening and closing movements which helps to dredge, regulate and circulate Qi and blood flow in the body. It combines motion and stillness aiming to preserve health, calm the mind and strengthen the body. There are many health benefits, if practiced regularly, including nourishing the spine, boosting the immune system, strengthening the muscles, massaging the internal organs, lengthening the connective tissue, improving blood circulation, pumping the lymph system, increasing lung capacity and regulating breathing. Our tutor, Aiko Fukumoto, has been a Qigong instructor since 2015.
